INTRODUCTION
AIDS, considered the world's most famous communicable disease, is a dreadful disease that is often seen by many as a death sentence.

While AIDS is a disease, HIV is just the code name for the Virus that causes the disease AIDS.

HIV means Human Immunodeficiency Virus.
AIDS means Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome.

SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED DISEASES (STD)

INTRODUCTION

PATIENT: Doctor I've been hearing of "sexually transmitted diseases" for a while now but I don't seem to have a good grasp of what it actually entails.

DOCTOR: Sexually Transmitted Diseases are simply those diseases that are transmitted through sexual intercourse from an infected person to his or her partner.

PATIENT: But I used to think that it is caused by using public toilets too often because ladies usually refer to it as "TOILET DISEASES"

DOCTOR: Very rarely, almost NEVER. In fact the term "Toilet Disease" does not exist in the medical world. Though can be transmitted through other means but not toilet. Let me explain what you should know to you.

INTRODUCTION

HEPATITIS- Two words are combined here which are;

1. Hepar- which simply means the LIVER
2. Itis- which means inflammation. 

Now y'all would agree with me if I define HEPATITIS as "INFLAMMATION OF THE LIVER". Guess what, that basically what HEPATITIS is.

LASSA FEVER

INTRODUCTION

LASSA- A town in Borno State, Nigeria. 

FEVER-  Body temperature that is higher than normal (when body feels hot to touch). Normal temperature being 36.6ºC - 37.2ºC

Lassa fever is a disease discovered in Lassa town of Borno State, Nigeria (in 1969) that makes ones body temperature to be higher than normal. 

However
the name "LASSA FEEVER" is not actually telling the full story (it's not all encompassing) because the fever is just the Tip of the Iceberg. It is more than just the fever alone and more deadly.

SCHISTOSOMIASIS

Adult male and female worms. 

INTRODUCTION

PATIENT: Doctor I'm seeing blood in my urine. It usually comes when I'm almost done urinating though I don't feel any pain but I am really worried.

DOCTOR: Do you wade or swim in slowly flowing river?

PATIENT: Yes doctor. I do that a lot with my friends. Oh wait a minute doc, my friends also has this same complaint. Could walding in slowing flowing river be the reason for passing out blood after urinating?

MALARIA

INTRODUCTION
Malaria is a very common disease in the tropics that people develops when they get bitten by a mosquito, specifically the "female anopheles mosquito". The female anopheles mosquitos transmit the parasite that causes malaria. The name of this parasite is plasmodium. In other words malaria is the disease that is caused by a parasite (plasmodium) which is transmitted by a female anopheles mosquito. For this reason mosquitos are referred to as the carrier (or vector) of the causative agent of malaria and not the cause of malaria.
